Engineered to be controlled remotely, the Corvo PPDS can also operate as an autonomous aircraft, relying solely on GPS for navigation. The cardboard drones were dispatched to Ukraine as a contribution from the Australian Ministry of Defence, which has not disclosed the exact quantity of aircraft to be supplied.

Since the inception of the conflict, Ukraine has extensively employed UAVs for both reconnaissance and combat duties, as a cost-effective — yet effective — measure to enhance the capabilities of the nation's limited combat aviation.
